Community Update

Bellow is the information regarding the speed gun, it is the same as what is on our police website currently. Not had chance to send it to you until now for you to update the SNG website with the details of it....

The Hawtonville SNG identified this as a priority in August 2010 following increasing reports from members of the public of vehicles speeding along some of the main road on the estate. This irresponsible driving puts pedestrians, cyclists and other road users in danger and is not acceptable, particularly when driving through residential areas.

The Hawtonville SNG has purchased a portable speed gun to use on the estate. We have had some of the worst areas for speeding risk assessed so that we are able to use the speed gun regularly to show road users that they will be prosecuted for breaking the speed limits. Members of the public have been trained to use the gun as well as the local beat team, housing officers, local counsellors and members of the TRA. We have set up a list of dates and locations to target and will be out on the estate very soon to test it out. Results will be updated onto the website.

Police Update - 24/08/2010

Yesterday we conducted our first speed gun exercise on the estate. We covered Bowbridge Road and Grange Road - two of the areas which have been identified by the public as being regularly used by speeding vehicles. We speed checked 135 vehicles in total and of these 54 were found to be travelling over the speed limit. We have worked out the average speed that motorists were travelling on each street, these being 29 mph for Bowbridge Road and 30 mph for Grange Road. We are hopeful that our presence on the estate with the speed gun will help to slow down speeding motorists.

Police Update - 11/09/2010

On 07/09/10 we conducted another speed check, this time focussing on Elizabeth Road and Churchill Drive. We checked 32 vehicles all together of which 6 were found to be travelling over the speed limit. The average for each street worked out at 33.3 mph for Elizabeth Road and 25.2 mph for Churchill Drive.
